So Much Snow

It has now been snowing for two straight days. Honestly, I'm not hating it. It's been falling nice and straight down and at a reasonable -5 degrees. Last we measured it was about 9 inches. I'm sure it'll settle a bit, but if it continues into tomorrow we could have a foot by the end of the day.

It's very pretty. This afternoon we went for a long walk with the dogs, plowing through the snow across the lake, we went along the path for a while, and then back across the lake to home. The part we did on the path is a lovely treed section, with lots of live and dead trees. As a result, there are lots of birds in that section. And today, we saw TWO Pileated Woodpeckers, a Northern Flicker, a couple of Hairy Woodpeckers, Chickadees, and Sparrows. At one point the two Pileated Woodpeckers were in trees quite close to each other, pecking on branches facing opposite directions, but definitely close enough to have gotten both of them in the same shot. And they sat there for several seconds too. More than enough time to focus and get the shot, and even close enough for the 250mm lens to be enough. Dream shot, once in a lifetime, probably…

And wouldn't you know it, there was no memory card in my camera.

So I have these vivid memories now, which are better than nothing. But I'm so disappointed that I forgot to put a card back in the camera before we left the house. Fingers crossed I'll see that again some day. You better believe I'll be spending most of my walks in that area for the rest of the winter.

Anyway, before our walk, I had gone out and taken photos of the snow and done my self-portraits in the backyard. And then, edited the photos, which is why there was no card in the camera.

So, those are the only photos I have for today, so enjoy the snow in our yard, and one reasonable self-portrait, and then some funny outtakes.

Flock of Cedar Waxwings that flew overhead.

The heated water dish we’ve put out for the birds, hopefully they will use it.
