One of the things I've been trying to practice lately is bird photography. We have several feeders outside our front window. Lots of our neighbours have feeders out too, and there are lots of trees in our neighbourhood, so we get a decent number of birds every day.
Basically I've reinforced what I already knew: that birds are incredibly difficult to photograph. They move lightning fast and can be really difficult to focus on. Hopefully, with more practice, I'll start to learn some of the tricks of the trade. I think that, unfortunately, gear quality does play a role in bird photography. My telephoto lens is not an amazing one, its pretty old, and the auto-focus is pretty slow. But, I'll work with what I've got because a dedicated bird lens is definitely not in my budget right now.
All the difficulties aside, it is incredibly rewarding to get a decent shot.
Here are a few of the better ones I caught today, enjoy!
